Being an Indian

I have been using internet for some eight years. When I go to most of the foreign sites which mentions about India, I have noticed something in common. Most of them were referring India as a land of snake charmers. Still I can find web pages which introduce the country like this. But now, they add more to that. Thanks to the development of the software industry and globalisation which opened whole new avenues for the entire world to come to India. This also enabled Indians to go abroad searching for new avenues. In early 90’s globalisation was something which generated fears in the minds of the peoples. But now it has changed. Of late, the growth of two Asian counties, China and India, is being highlighted in the media. This is because these counties have changed their orthodox attitude and is welcoming changes. While the western world is still well ahead of these countries in Research & Development, India and China have an edge in Knowledge Based Industries.

I remember hearing government sponsored advertisements about Family planning birth control. But some years ago the government realised that the population is not a concern for the country, but it is an asset. Now I can see some western magazines highlighting this as an advantage for India and other Asian countries. Last week, I read in the newspapers about Mukesh Ambani of the Reliance Industries becoming the richest man in the world. I think there are lot more to watch out for in the coming days.
While naming this site also, like everyone does, I also thought of taking .com address. But it was unavailable as usual. So I thought of other names also. But I could not find any to my satisfaction. So I chose this .in domain name. It also emphasises that I am proud to be an Indian.

The ‘Being an Indian’ image have changed remarkably especially after 9/11.
Thanks to the impact of IT/Communication/Infrastructure developments in our country in the past one decade!!But I feel its high time that we focus on hardware design and manufacture. Also we are below par in terms of transportation and networking. If that barrier is surpassed then we will surely be accepted globally as a Superpower.
