One of the biggest question when someone starts a new blog is the question, what. It is the question that needs to be answered in many ways. First, it decides the niche of the blog. Where it fits into the vast blogosphere. The next what comes for the content and that also matter a lot. This what is about the content. Whatever you write, it should be digestible for your readers. So one should find a good way to interact with your reader, in your own style.
When I started blogging, I had no clue about the topic. All I know was that I would write about something very interesting to me. And web happened to be that topic. But even then, it caused a lot of confusion. That confusion arose because there web is a broad topic. The biggest challenge is to write consistent content. The content should have a consistent style. Even to add more to this, you need to produce that consistent content for a long time. I needed to produce content very often also.
Now let me come to the main topic – what. When we start a new blog, it matters what we say. That keeps the world to focus on you. If you can find an excellent answer to the question what, then it is the magic. Like Seth Godin says, our content should spread. It should be viral also. If you produce some good content, then you will be quoted in other blogs. The content will spread itself. You need not do some hard work to spread the content. It will speak and work for you.
Very often, I find my own content giving ideas for my own forthcoming content. To produce genuine content, we should make some good effort. The niche for this blog – content, is something that evolved over time. I find it interesting because, it I love to make content that work for me. I research a lot about that. I don’t have a very big audience, but even then I write. Like Maki said, you should write as if no one is reading your blog. Some day, world will realise you – but you have to write excellent content consistently. This is still a nightmare for me. But I have learned to live with that. I know that I can produce very good content. So that is an inspiration for me.
