One of the favourite tips that everyone gives to a new blogger is to create a list of good articles, that people love to read. I have created some lists. The good thing is that these lists can be fuel for many of your future posts. I have seen many successful bloggers using this, but not utilized well. Now on to the idea…

When I make a list say, 10 things that you can do to minimize stress, you will list each of those points. I will include a short description also. So the reader will get some information and then he tries to get more about that by searching net or though any other means. What I can do is to provide a good article, explaining how implement that part. Continuing with our example of minimizing stress, I would write “Get off your seat and go out”. I would include some description on this and then I will move on to the next point. Going this way I will create a list with 10 points.

Suppose, on a bad day, I am short of ideas for the blog post. I can utilize the list post. How? I would take the point one and then I will start explaining that point such that it would become a good post. You can link the new post from your original article also. So over a time you will be making a good series of tips and then a great article. Care should be taken not to over explain something such that it becomes boring for the customer.

Often the limitation of lists are that we are limited by the images which we can use in the list post. Often article text and images will make the article very long and people will may not be interested in reading very long articles. You can overcome this limitation if you choose one point in the list and write an article on that. You can make an article that is of appropriate length and use lots of images if you want to describe something in detail.

In short,

  1. Build a list article – Everyone loves it.
  2. Write an article about each of the points, when you are short of ideas.

I have built some lists, and would like to experiment with this idea. This is something which I haven’t used till date – but would like to use it a lot in the feature. Many successful blogs use this technique.
